During the second week of the school holidays, 59 students and 7 staff set off on the Queensland Music and Dance Tour—a vibrant and memorable experience that combined performance, learning, community service, and fun.

Our Dance students spent Term 1 preparing a 25-minute routine blending hip hop, jazz, and lyrical styles, which they performed at several locations throughout the tour, dazzling audiences at Dreamworld, Nambour Christian College, and an ANZAC Festival. For our dancers, this tour was not only a chance to perform but also an opportunity to grow artistically, working with leading choreographers from top studios such as Dynamite and Dance Force in professional workshops across hip hop, jazz, and contemporary dance.

Dreamworld provided the perfect opening to the tour, where both our music and dance students took to the stage to perform for excited park visitors, before enjoying the park’s many attractions. This set the tone for the rest of the week, filled with collaboration and cultural exchange.

At Nambour Christian College, students from both disciplines participated in joint workshops and performances. Musicians played alongside Nambour’s concert band, sharing a medley of Stevie Wonder and Queen hits, while dancers collaborated in group sessions and showcased their routines to warm and welcoming audiences. These moments helped form new friendships and foster mutual respect among students.

The tour also offered a meaningful chance to serve the community. Musicians performed for recipients at Rivers Church of Christ foodbank, took the stage at Mitchelton State High School, and brought joy to over 100 residents at a Brisbane retirement village. Students had the opportunity to engage with the audience after each performance, sharing stories and creating memories with those they served.

A moving ANZAC ceremony marked the final day of the full tour group, where students laid a wreath, sang, and performed in honour of those who have served Australia. Speaking with a veteran following the event left a lasting impression on many of our students.

The tour concluded with a final performance at a Brisbane farmers market, where the musicians entertained a relaxed crowd in the sunshine—an uplifting end to an unforgettable journey.

This tour was more than a performance opportunity; it was a celebration of creativity, connection, and community. Students returned with sharpened skills, new friendships, and experiences that will inspire their artistic journeys well beyond the classroom.
