Mini Sport Program
Empowering our youngest athletes through the joy of play, building confidence and versatility through every new challenge.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Mini Sports caters for the full spectrum of ability, creating opportunities for all students to engage in play-based physical activity where enjoyment drives learning. Through these experiences, students develop transferable skills, build versatility, and grow as well-rounded multi-sport athletes rather than specialising too early in a single discipline.
Mini Sports provides Kindy to Year 3 students with the opportunity to develop the foundations of movement, coordination, and confidence in a supportive environment. Designed as an entry pathway into sport, the program focuses on introducing a wide range of fundamental skills, including: running, jumping, throwing, catching, striking, and teamwork. These foundations underpin all games and physical activity.
Through engaging sessions, students participate in a rotation of movement-based activities and modified mini-sports, encouraging them to explore and enjoy a variety of skills rather than specialising too early. This approach is supported by global research and the stories of champions: Usain Bolt, Roger Federer, Ash Barty, Sam Kerr, and Michael Jordan all played multiple sports as children before focusing on their chosen field. Studies by David Epstein (Range), Jean Côté, Daniel Coyle (The Talent Code), Anders Ericsson (Peak), and Ross Tucker highlight the same pattern — children who sample a variety of activities first often develop stronger all-round skills, avoid burnout, and build the adaptability to succeed later.
