Instrument Tuition

Our tutors come with a wealth of professional and tutorial experience and are well equipped to tutor students of all ages and abilities.

Students are taken out of class for their 30 minute lesson during College hours.

It is essential that students who participate in instrument tuition have an instrument of their own at home to practise on in order to progress and enjoy their musical learning.

Timetabling is at the discretion of the tutor and specific time slots requested can only be considered, not guaranteed. Lessons are directly invoiced by the tutors to the parents and the College does not accept money for instrument tuition.

Parent Involvement is key

Learning a new instrument, language or skill is one of life’s great challenges. It can be incredibly rewarding as the development of new skills encourages us to grow and discover new ways of thinking and working. There will be ups and downs, of course, and as a parent it is important to be encouraging and positive during the downs and ups to ensure a lifelong love of learning.

Your support and encouragement at practice time is invaluable. Give your child a practice area where they can play without too much distraction. Make sure they have the equipment they need and good lighting. Encourage small amounts of practice time each day, rather than one big session on the weekend. It’s much easier to form a habit of 10 minutes each day. Although you may not know how to play the instrument yourself, you can still help by supervising and helping to schedule practice time.

Protect your child from feeling overwhelmed. With so much to learn, so much to get right, it can feel pretty overwhelming. This is normal! Understand that it is a long process with a wonderful end result. Be patient and encouraging. Have a little family concert each week to help your child show off their new skills and build confidence.

Prices are reviewed annually and are subject to change
  • I understand that my child must attend their lesson every week. If they miss a lesson, the fee is not refundable. It is vital that parents make contact with the tutor. If the tutor is given at least 24 hours’ notice of an absence, they will provide a makeup lesson. If less than 24 hours notice is given the lesson is forfeited.
  • Fees are to be paid in full within three weeks of receiving an invoice from the tutor.
  • If a student forgets their music or instrument they should still attend their lesson and theory and aural work will be covered. Students in Senior school may store their instruments in M9 but should collect them at the end of the day.
  • Tutorials are held in the Music Tuition block located in P Block. Students in K – 3 will be collected and returned directly to their classroom by their tutor. Students in 4-12 are expected to make their own way to their lessons.
  • Notify your child’s tutor a week in advance of all excursions, sporting events and College events that will interrupt their lesson time so that a makeup lesson can be scheduled. Failing to give the tutor adequate notice could result in the lesson being lost.
  • Students will remain on tutor’s timetables from year to year unless notice is given or they depart from the College. Parents are to notify tutors 2 weeks before term starts to cancel lessons. If notification to cancel lessons is not provided by this time, a full terms fees will be charged regardless of whether the student attends or not. If this is the case we encourage the student to continue their lessons through to the end of the term.

Please note: Fee payments will not be accepted on behalf of tutors by the music or administration staff.
